Dehradun, the capital of Uttarakhand has a vibrant street food scene. Located in the Doon valley between river Ganges on the east and Yamuna on the west, the city is famous for its pretty landscape and pleasant climate. It provides a gateway to the popular tourist destinations such as Mussoorie, Auli and the holy cities of Haridwar and Rishikesh etc. Let’s look at some popular eateries

CHETAN PURI WALA

Here you can try a traditional meal platter that is served on a leaf plate. The homely spread consisted of puris, chole, potato curry and raita. Their assortment of ladoos made with desi ghee are bestsellers too.

MAMAJI KATLAMME WALE

It is a frontier dish that is exclusively available in Dehradun. The Katlamma is a big sized deep fried crisp flatbread that is eaten with a spicy chole and pickles. This closer cousin of Bhature is a craze with the locals.

KHASTA BHALLE STALL

This place serves a unique zesty snack that consists of crushed Khasta kachori and fried lentil vada topped with chole sabzi and grated radish. No wonder with all the yummy things, it turns out to be a popular fare.

BENGALI SWEET SHOP

Although they specialize in Bengali sweets, they also have a variety of traditional sweets as well. Here we tried the most famous sweet of Uttarakhand, the bal mithai. This chocolate-like fudge is made from khoya, sugar and dry fruits. It has a unique smoky taste that comes from the caramelizing of the khoya.

SUNRISE BAKERY

It is the most popular name in the city when it comes to bakery items. Here we tried some of their popular items like rusk, pista biscuit, patties, plum cake and cream rolls. The crisp and flaky cream rolls with a luscious creamed filled center were absolutely divine.

KUMAR SWEET SHOP

This is another popular name when it comes to traditional desi ghee based sweets. The exciting taste of their bottle gourd ladoos and kaju paan was truly delightful.

JOSHI FAST FOOD

Their momo are highly recommended for their fresh and irresistible taste and is a craze among the young crowd. We tried a plate of mutton momo which turned out to be softt and juicy.

SARDARJI PAKODA SHOP

Drop here in the evening to munch on some hot and fresh pakoda prepared by a genial Sardarji. During the day they mostly served bun butter and jalebis.

VICKY BUN TIKKI

Bun tikki is a quintessential snack from Dehradun that should be missed. It wasn’t just a delicious snack but a harbinger of nostalgia and emotions for Anubhav.
