Jagdalpur is a beautiful city in the state of Chhattisgarh. It is surrounded by some scenic tourist destinations. Let’s take you through the places that we explored during our gastronomic tour in the city.
SAI DOSA PLAZA
Jagdalpur
It is a small shop doling out favourite South Indian dishes to the locals and visitors. The dish that we had opted for was the upma dosa which consisted of a crisp savory crepe stuffed with savoury semolina pudding like dish called upma. Being a combination of two different dishes, it was a fun thing to try.
RAM JANKI PAAN BHANDAR
Jagdalpur
It is a quant little paan shop run by a genial fellow whose serving style is more fascinating than the paan. They have quite a wide range of options.
SHRI BALAJI DOSA CENTER
Agrasain Chowk, Gidam Road
South Indian breakfast is quite prevalent hence another popular place serving it to the locals is the above one. One of their best selling dishes is the soft and fluffy set dosa which is very similar to an uttapam in appearance but taste wise it is quite different. The semolina used in the batter gives it a nice body. It's filling and a no fuss snack.
SHRI MAHAVIR PARATHA CENTER
Near Maa Danteshwari Temple
It is a busy shop that offers a wide range of parathas. They are usually accompanied with chana curry and chutney.Through the aalu paratha seemed to be the bestseller, we opted for the sattu one. It was stuffed with a spiced gram flour mixture and was quite decent.
BAJRANG CHOLE CENTER
Near Maa Danteshwari Temple
Chole bhature is one of the country's much loved combos and Jagdalpur too is not spared of its charm. Bajrang Chole Center's bhatura were fresh, soft and fluffy while the chole scored less on flavours.
KERALA BHAWAN RESTAURANT
In Front Of Jhankar Talkies
It is a famous place serving South Indian snacks like dosa, vada, idli etc. On the recommendations of our local host we tried the rawa cutting dosa and it was quite amazing specially when paired with their signature chutney.
MILAN SWEETS
Jain Mandir Road, Naya Para
It is an old sweet shop hugely popular for their pocket friendly samosa. During our visit we tried it along with falhari jalebi and anarkali. The former is a khoya and tikhur based jalebi that is fit for consumption after a ritualistic fasting. The second one is a sweet somewhat similar to gulab jamum.
KANHAIYA BIKANER SWEETS
Circuit House Road
This sweet shop is known for its Rajasthani snacks which have been modified a bit to suit the local palate. So the pyaz kachori that we tried oebr here was slightly less tangy and mild than their Rajasthani counterparts.
RAJ SWEETS
Power House Road
It is again a very busy place offering a wide range of fried snacks and sweets. Their aalu chop or spiced boiled potato mixture based fritters was great but the rabri was an average one.
SHRI BAJRANG HOTEL
Power House Road
It is a general shop selling easy snacks, sweets, munchies, chocolates, beverages etc. The raasmalai looked inviting so I e tried it. This cottage cheese balls based sweets was a little too sweet for our palate.
