NIGHT FOOD TOUR IN AHMEDABAD- PART 2

Street Food in the Food Truck Night Market:

The Food Truck Night Market is a huge setup on the ground with very high rising tents under which a seating area is made. Around this, there are many food carts that serve very interesting food combinations and innovations to the customers.

Ahmedabad is a fun place to be in when it comes to food because you might not know what comes your way except cheese. This thing is a constant here!

So, let’s go around and explore:

Jamun Shots- Jamun Shots are a thick concentrate of Jamun Pulp with black salt. It is a wine coloured refreshing drink! Indeed, a healthy start to the entire food tour.

They also decorate the brim of the cup with some salt and crushed Jamun. Since, these are shots, you’ll have to gulp them down in one go even if they have a very strong, sharp flavour. That is the ritual!

Price- INR 100 for four shots.

Pani Puri Pizza- We don’t think you have heard this before. It is literally what its name says! Golgappas (snacks which are pouty, round and hollow from the inside) are filled with mayonnaise. This mayonnaise has chopped capsicums, tomatoes, onion, masalas etc, then it is layered with lots of grated cheese and topped with some more finely chopped yellow and red bell peppers.

It is a pizza without a base. It is a bowl pressed open from the top to pour all the contents in it. Have to say, it looks beautiful!

As beautiful as it looks, it tastes even better!

Price- INR 100 per plate.

Potato Twisters- Potato Twisters have become everyone’s favourite! A potato is cut in a spiral shape and then spanned over a stick like a DNA (sorry, for getting the biological term, we hope you still eat). It is then dipped in a cornflour paste and sent for deep frying.

Oh, and when it comes out, people are already drooling in queues. To enhance the flavours, some chutneys like schezwan and some masalas are sprinkled over it.

Surprise, Surprise! This doesn’t have cheese on it (we still can’t believe it) . It has a very nice, hot-sweet-spicy taste. Please go and try this!

Sandwich with Monaco Topping- To us, this was butter and cheese, more butter and cheese and loads of butter and cheese.

You might as well have known the main ingredient till now! Apart from this, there is a layer of pasted veggies and apple chutney.

The way it is served is very interesting. The sandwich is pierced using a toothpick and on its other end, a monaco biscuit is adjusted. Again it is topped with butter, cheese and apple chutney!

Just like Pizza Hut used to have a small flag in the centre of its pizza, this sandwich has a Monaco flag hoisting its superior presence.

Fun Fact- These people have 2000 flavours which they repeat every 3 years. How cool is that!

Price- INR 150.

Kathiyawadi Style Khaman- This looks a lot like a gold cubicle bar, the one you get in a jewellry shops. But of course, this is different. It is pale yellow in colour and has a smooth and a shiny surface. There’s almost a bouncy jelly consistency to it.

These are very gorgeous yellow blocks of Khaman which are served with a very unique chutney (you might not have tried this flavour before) made up of jaggery and garlic.

It is an excellent combo!

Price- INR 50 per plate.

Special Mention- This shop is not in the Food Truck market.

Methi Bhajiya at Raipur Bhajiya House- Methi is Fenugreek, a crucial spice of Indian households. These are pakoras made up of methi leaves, coriander and chilli. All these ingredients are mixed in a Besan batter with some spices in it and then deep fried.

These are served fresh on the plate and have a both sweet and spicy taste catering to everyone’s palette. It is very balanced in its flavour.

Fun Fact- It is available from 8 o’ clock in the morning to 3 am the next day. There is no concept of night and people keep coming and going. It has a very lively atmosphere throughout the year.

Price- INR 20- 50 per plate.

There’s nothing like a diet in Gujarat. It is like a full time hogging business and that is why people are so full in their stomachs and in their hearts! Here, they live to eat and not eat to live (hahaha! Best!).
