IDLIS. The breakfast dish that most of us are familiar with. It is usually served with side of the good old Coconut chutney and Sambar. But Delhi Food Walks and some people in Bengaluru feel otherwise because here they truly believe that EVERYTHING goes well with chocolate. We discovered a gem of a thela in the city of Bengaluru serving Idlis that are stuffed with chocolate in the middle, topped with strawberry, mango, or litchi jelly along with a side of chilled ice cream.
The weird combination of chocolate and idlis was not the only one. The classic south Indian snack Bonda, which is usually made of potatoes that are crumbed and fried, here is made by frying ice cream. Yes, you heard it right! They take super chilled little balls of ice cream crumb coat and throw it hot oil and later top it off with jelly. This place is a delight for all sweet lovers.
But if you are a pancake lover, have they got the dish for you!! You don’t just get chocolate idli here, you also get chocolate dosa which is, of course, slathered with a layer of strawberry jelly and served with ice cream. It is a little bizarre at first but this place manages to serve weird yet tasty meals.
Just in case you’re not in the mood for experimenting with your taste buds, do not fear, because this place has got you covered with utterly simple fried snacks that are served with the traditional chutney. One ought to try out such places just to appreciate the effort and innovation these street vendors put into their food.
Our visit to Biryani Cafe was absolutely delightful. The amount of detail that goes into making different kinds of Biryani and chicken dishes is unbelievable. We tried three different kinds of Biryani, the iconic Donne Biryani being one of them, and several types of chicken dishes. Each and everything has a distinct flavour to it. Sharing the food with the owner of the place and seeing his passion for the food they serve, was a great experience.
