During the North Bengal Food tour, after wrapping up our food explorations in Siliguri we headed towards Kalimpong for the same. So today's episode brings you a joyful food experience from this road trip that covered a distance of nearly 70 km. It is a stunning stretch adorned with beautiful winding roads, spell binding scenic beauty and some famous tourist points. Because of time crunch we could cover only two very popular eateries and a famous temple.
The first stop of this journey was Chaasum restaurant near Nandi bridge. Since they specialize in Indo Chinese food, we tried a classic chowmein from here. It was different from the usual street side chowmein because of the absence of an overwhelming use of soya and chilli sauces. The veggies added a nice crunch to this spicy dish. We polished it off with some hot coffee.
Next we crossed the magnificent Coronation bridge and after covering some distance we stopped at Sevokeshwari Kali temple. It is a major worship site for the devotees of Goddess Kali.
From there we reached Leela Mani Restaurant where we received a warm welcome by owner Santraj Gupta. He treated us to some classic chicken momo, a Nepali lunch Thali and a Nepali breakfast thali. The momo were soft, juicy and comforting. The lunch thali had traditional homestyle veg and non veg dishes of which our favourites were the bitter gourd fritter, kalo dal, country chicken curry and mutton kasa. The breakfast platter was also a simple affair. Finally after this wholesome meal and warm hospitality, we left for Kalimpong.
